The Cave MK3

The Cave MK3, The point where I acknowledge that indeed I and the cave itself have relocated south again, and try and get moving on publishing the 5+ finished or WIP mixes that I have lying around on my hard drive taking up valuable real estate (the WAVs are at least).

I guess it could be called it regime change!!!

As you can see from the picture the latest cave is “cosy”. It actually doesn’t look as sinister as the picture may have you believe, but I’m all for mood and atmosphere.

Well since I last posted I’ve piggy backed on to what you could call the corporate circuit. Lol. I would like to thank Christian (Wes) and the guys in Hatfield for that party and the hospitality. If that’s what life is like on the road, I could dig it (well at least for a while,) Serato not working was a pain, but (luckily) always prepared, I brought the necessary 5 hours worth of vinyl with me so that was, fine but the red wine hangovers!)

So yeah I’m officially putting out there the whole “for bookings and info email man@blahblahagency.com” << [please don’t email that I ain’t with them (yet, lol)] and welcoming all gigs (as if I’ll get any, broken beat is dead isn’t it? I suppose I could try to tie in with “UK Fun-Ke” audience, Don’t know if I could draw for any of those tunes those)

But I don’t drive so I guess the coverage area is some what limited lol (Should I look into a Travelodge loyalty card? hehe). Could do international booking too though. hint hint. Japan, Russia, France, Poland etc I know you’re watching, they say the stats don’t lie (though on podomatic one is never sure).

Ohhhhh and if you do manage to find me on Facebook, it ain’t hard (as you’ll see me on the 4hero, broken beat and share your mixes groups whoring out my mixes), if you would like to add me as a friend, I’m all cool with that, but could you please state that you’re adding me for the podcasts (in the optiional notes to accompany the request), so I know you’re not some spammer looking to promote some kind of service. Sorry if I’ve already offended anyone by not accepting your request.

Well that was a long preamble, anyway on with the music.

Soulparlor - Going Down ft Colonel Red (Soulparlor remix) [Fresh Minute Music]
Mr Scruff - Baises [Ninja Tuna]
????? Not allowed to List (But the title is in chorus)
Yameen - Light of Love (Mark De Clive-Lowe Remix) (Vocal) [Rumble Pack]
B.I.T.A - Flappy Dayz [White/BBE]
Method Unique - Superstar (Future Soul mix) [Broadcite]
IG Culture - Summertime (NSM Summertime '09 Mix feat.

This one was recorded way back in October or something like that, and was the first one recorded in the new cave (which is sometimes known as “the den”). Thanks to Thoughts Cosmic who gave me a couple of tunes months ago and I been toying with where to put them in mixes, finally knocked one in, and it’s the rolling one. And Bopstar who a couple of months ago finally yet out a tune i had buged him to have. One tune can’t be listed as the label has been known for going militant regarding copyright infringement the title is pretty oblivious though.

The Comoco session should be next Friday but will I’ll confirm on that as I “plan” to publish another podcast before that (that right this thing was always meant to be twice monthly, I just got lazy).

Till next time, you can catch me…………… on Xbox live playing FIFA10.

The delay was generally down to me either, trying to stick to a certain order whlie haveing to think of little the titles, coming up with the little artwork and completely having to re record mixes due to fluffy needles and Serato messing up (yes it can happen, but it was probably down to the fluffy needles or the battered control vinyl)

Anyway this little mix is at least 3 months old and was meant to appear after a little tech-step rinse out, but it’s cut through the red tape and posted ahead of it’s planned place, and as you can see this means its missing elements, but then again I hardly think you’re checking this for the pictures as much I enjoy producing them.

Were I’ll continue to provide the mixes (would definitely look into getting a mic and inviting guests). Jungle style amens, good looking,, the jazzy sounds, tech step, jump up, liquid, and just plain dnb rollers

Enjoy

But hadn’t made it into a podcast. Starting with a killer Souled edit of a funk tune, proper banging tune there (cheers boys), something from the 4Hero album because I realized I hadn’t played much of that, a couple of digital only tunes, the mega smash that is the Rass Out, some twisted funk, a shoody sounding (but funky) Karizma Bootleg the Whinehouse Bugz remix (I know I’ve already played that, but the mix has had to be archived off the site due to needing the space, plus the double drop is sweet!!!) And a real roller from the Jazztronauts, finishing with some ‘restless soul’ style house.

The can really hear the dust on some of the records (even the ‘new’ ones), that’s the month and a half break showing it's signs, need to perform some deep cleaning.

Enjoy

One of those ‘varied’ sets again, this ones’ got some long mixes in it but I’d like to think I’ve added a new dimension to some of the tunes and still given the tracks that need it enough time to breathe, dnb on this one, with the broken stuff coming soon (don’t worry its been recorded already, just need to leave a few days in between to let the itunes catch them all automatically)

Highlight for me are the bassline rolling in, on ‘B’s Theme’, ‘Tight Fit’ and ‘Defunct Drum’s Depression Decade’ and the final tune, (Cookie check it I think you’ll like!)

Actually the whole thing is pretty good!!
Levels clip a bit on the drop of ‘Tradition’, sorry about that but I was in the bass switch mode, and got a little excited.

You don't always have to dance

To get back on track with the intention of 2 a month i bring you this little beauty.

If you don't get the theme of this from the title and picture of a mosque interior you will by the second tune.

A selection of tunes of the majority of which I wouldn't expect people to start brocking out to though there is a couple of sections that got me skanking, but all excellent tunes. From the age old sub genres like "atmospherics" "Loungestep", "Chin stroke", "Rollers", "Leftfield" to new ones like the Dubstep-esqe stuff, Rollers and "Microfunk" stuff (no to keen of that name, it helps identify music and that cool with me).

It's all in there all there

Alaska & Kirsty Hawkshaw - Glaciation [Arctic Music]
Intsra:Mental - Photograph [Forthcoming Darkestral]
Nucleus & Paradox - Descendents [Paradox Music]
Nebula - Frame of Reference [Subtle Audio]
Alaska & Paradox - Drum Sessions [Paradox Music]
Sub - Steganographie [Breakfast Audio]
[NSF] Sativa - Shadow In The Dark [Breakfast Audio]
Seba - Steel [Paradox Music]
Fanu - I Play It Cooler [Sutble Audio]
[NSF] Destroy2K - Soundbowy [Pinecone Moonshine]
Commix - Bear Music [Hospital]
Noisia - Strange Owl Experiment [Metalheadz]
Duo Inferno - Feeling Blue [Soul:R]
Calibre - Sokitome [Signature]
Instra:Mental & D-Bridge - Detuned [Forthcoming Darkestral]
Nebula - Vision of Paradise [Subtle Audio]

Enjoy.
Thanks to all labels the involved. Drum'n'bass maybe be classed as dance music in the shops and most of these not get dropped in clubs, these tunes are some of the best dnb beats around at the moment, and the work and creatively is greatly appreciated.

<itunes:summary>To get back on track with the intention of 2 a month i bring you this little beauty.

Fanu - I Play It Cooler [Sutble Audio]
[NSF] Destroy2K - Soundbowy [Pinecone Moonshine]

Calibre - Sokitome [Signature]
Instra:Mental & D-Bridge - Detuned [Forthcoming Darkestral]

Enjoy.
Thanks to all labels the involved. Drum'n'bass maybe be classed as dance music in the shops and most of these not get dropped in clubs, these tunes are some of the best dnb beats around at the moment, and the work and creatively is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the month long break, been busy with uni stuff and a bit of dnb crate digging looking to rediscover some of the tunes I first brought when I started mixing.

Anyway those set will come later. For now I have a wide range of dnb style for you on this one. Starting off kind of ambient and finishing with some one foot skanking.

This blend has it all except jump up (I don’t do modern day jump-up), that minimal style that’s going round and darkside techstep, those two will come later.

For now enjoy the varied sounds of 1999 to 2008.

Big Bud - Millennium (Carlito Remix) [Creative Source]
Nookie - Natural Experience [Good Looking]
Hive, Juju & Echo - Penthouse [Renegade]
Architex - Dance Child [Signal]
Influx UK - Special Black [Formation]
Use of Weapons - Stan’s Plan [Droppin’ Science]

Equinox - Don’t Wanna Hurt You [Bassbin]
Paradox - Drum sessions (Seba remix) [Paradox Music]
London Elektricity - Bare region [Hospital]
Electro Soulsystem - Come around [Fokus]
Marcus Intalex & S.T, Files - How you make feel [31 Records]
Usual Suspects - Tribute [Metalheadz]

Calibre - Trip It [Digital Soundboy]
Lil Louis - French Kiss (Ed Rush & Optical remix) [Bootleg]
<< Bad Company - Bullet Time [BCUK]

Sunday Selection Volume 8: Background Music

Ez,

Another rolling Sunday selection, Volume 8 in the collection, and nice all rounder set, Starting of with a cracking tune from the Goldie album, then the epic ‘Aki” then taking it on from there, with some more ‘epic’ tunes (amen included) touching on tech step, serious edits and building up to a seriously bass heavy rollers rinse out on the liquid tip.

If it weren’t the “9th Hand” I would call it completely dance floor friendly but that one will leave some people confused, ahhh well it will have to do as “danceable” background music.

Goldie - Letting Go [Metalheadz]
Naibu - Aki [Breakin]
Klute & Pieter K - Material Trip [Commercial Suicide/OSR]
Seba - Make my way home [Offshore]
Spotless - With the friend the shadow [Outsider]
Pieter K - It could have been you [Breakbeat Science]
Spiral - Miss Sunirse (Fracture & Neptune remix) [KNOW]
Seba & Paradox - Red Tears [Secret Operations]
Nico & Ed Rush - Torque [No U-turn]
Breakage - The 9th Hand [Planet Mu]
Polska - Swept [Inperspective]
Deep Blue - What Voodoo? [Offshore]
Nu:tone - Strange Encounter [Hospital]
London Elektricity Vs Robert Owens - My Dreams (Total Science remix) [Hospital]
Mist:i:Cal - Mistical Dub Part 2 [Soul:R]

Enjoy

      <itunes:summary>Ez,

Another rolling Sunday selection, Volume 8 in the collection, and nice all rounder set, Starting of with a cracking tune from the Goldie album, then the epic ‘Aki” then taking it on from there, with some more ‘epic’ tunes (amen included) touching on tech step, serious edits and building up to a seriously bass heavy rollers rinse out on the liquid tip.

If it weren’t the “9th Hand” I would call it completely dance floor friendly but that one will leave some people confused, ahhh well it will have to do as “danceable” background music.

Naibu - Aki [Breakin]
Klute & Pieter K - Material Trip [Commercial Suicide/OSR]

Starting with the icy sounds of 2008’s Offworld tides pt. 2, continuing the vibes on Source Direct’s approach and identify from more that ten years previous. Reaching a pulsing section of “life” (3 tunes with the word life in the title) with the beautiful ‘pulse of life’ into the anthem that is ‘inner city life’, into the breakdown with ‘F-jams’ taken into the rough with some ‘cold fresh air’, then rolled out to ‘atlantis’ by care of the ‘waveforms’, till ‘the black gold of the sun’ makes a appearance.

ASC - Offworld Tides Pt. 2 [Covert Operations]
Source Direct - Approach and Identify [Source Direct]
Red One - Alive ‘n’ Kickin’ [Liftin’ Spirits]
DNA - DNA [Full Cycle]
System X - Say It (Version) [3rd Eye]
Nookie - Celebrate Life [Reinforced]
Sentinel - Pulse of Life [Basement]
Goldie - Inner City Life [F.F.R.R]
Hidden Agenda - The Sun [Creative Source]
Adam F feat. Conrad- F-Jams [Section 5]
Higher Sense - Cold Fresh air (Remix) [Moving Shadow]
Shogun - Nautilus [Renegade]
Apollo Two - Atlantis (I Need You) (L.T.J. Bukem Remix) [Good Looking]
Studio Pressure - Jump MKII (Certificate 18)
Aquarius - Waveforms [Looking Good]
Nuyorican Soul - I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun (4 Hero Remix) [Talkin’ Loud]

One time goning to attempt to make a set where the title themselves make a little passage, prepare from some strange tune selection on that one just to make grammatical sense.

Till the next one (which ain’t gonna be the one I just mentioned)

Peace & Enjoy

Many bases covered here, really happy with this, guaranteed to rock any head. Starting on the Acid Jazz sounds of the 90’s passing through a touch hip-hop, jazz, disco and broken beat. A set that definitely does good down as one of favourites.

Soul II Soul - Love Enuff [Virgin]
Shogun - Latin Nights [Renegade]
Mr Scruff - Crisps [Ninja Tune]
Mr Scruff - Give Up To Get [Ninja Tuna]*

Phuturistix - Cohiba (Unreleased Edit**) [Nuro]
Tempo - A little better [Broadcite]

* The dust is starting settle on the record here sorry for the sound quality loss, I just didn't want to stop.

** Obviously released now but that is actually listed on the CD

Enjoy

Ps. Might have some guest mixes the like coming through in future from guys looking to expose themselves to my audience of like 10 people. (actually that means have officially made it to the list of taste makers DJ’s, lol)

Yeah I'm back, and back with the dnb, got loads of mixes (I know I've said that before, but this time they are already recorded) lined up.

Starting this one is a Grooverider tune, yeah I'd thought I'd acknowledge the mans' release from prison.
This one is more of a party set with some proper rollers in there.

Grooverider - What would you do (Ft Lifford) [Columbia]
Carlito & Addiction - A Better Day [Defunked]
Klute - Song Seller [31 Records]
Calibre & Zero Tolerance - Diamonds & Pearl [C.I.A]
Seba & Paradox - Wake up call - [Secret Operations]
Klute - Divinity [Samurai Music]
Seba - Break Selection [Combination]
Commix - Satellite Type 2 [Metalheadz]
The Streets - It's Too Late (High Contrast remix) [White]
London Elektricity - Fast Soul Music [Hospital]
Calibre - Mystic [Creative Source]
Influx Datum - Back for more [Formation]
Sonic - Make me wanna (Artificial Intelligence remix) [V Recordings]
Shy FX & T Power - Feelings [Digital Soundboy]
Roni Size - Fassy Hole [V Recordings]
Heist - Shut Down - [Play:Musik]
Paradox - They Choose To Perplex [Reinforced]

Expect a new mix within the week, I'm going to make up the missed sessions. I count 3 in total, plus keeping up the regular episodes. So keep checking.

Enjoy

No I haven’t been on a foreign holiday, nor in fact a holiday of any great sort. Loads more great music to come, next up is a nice broken beat set of what i'm playing out at the moment, after that, we’ll see how the mood is.

Well it’s June, The University has released me (for now) and it’s time to get to it.

If any of you have podomatic accounts or check the homepage (you don’t have to and I ain’t making you.) you would have noticed the changes the backend of the service.
I now get a chart, listing my position within the podomatic user database!! Currently at 1072 within the total listing and 444 within the music category.
As you know (or could guess) that ain’t good enough!!! 100 within music is a must. So let’s see how will do with the first upload since the changes.

I found out that this week that this podcast is the top listed result for a search on the term “broken beat” (within the podomatic search function) So yeah I’ve claim that one, cheers folks (I don’t regularly check that or anything, just happened to notice, lol)

Anyway so last week I caught up on some dnb released I had missed but didn’t have the chance to spin them, so I put them away in the racks now. I can’t remember what I brought or where it is, So I bring to you the first of 3 mixes that have been recorded this week alone just drawing tunes, One take business, second play ever on some of the more recent tunes. (well the 2 of them that made it into this mix)

Calibre (feat. Diane Charlemagne) - Bullets [Signature]
LTJ Bukem - Switch [Good Looking]
                Ill Logic & Raf - De-Lirium [DZR]
Kelis - Trick Me (Artificial Intelligence Remix) [Virgin]
                Calibre - Peso [Signature]
Carlito & Addiction - U Got Me Thinking [Creative Source]
Carlito & Addiction - I want You (Fabio remix) [Creative Source]
DJ Ron feat. Sia - Little Man [G.M.M. Beat Cloning]
A-Sides (ft MC Fats) - What you don’t know [Eastside]
Artificial Intelligence - Ever On [Soul:R]
                Paradox & Nucleus - Zenith’s Core [Esoteric]
D Kay & Epsilon - Barcelona [BC Authorized]
                Mr L - Oh Yeah [Mr L]
                Mist:I:Cal - Time to fly [Soul:R]
                Blame - Inside Heart [Metalheadz]
                Klute - Tacky [Commercial Suicide]
                Instra:Mental - Sakura [Darkestral]

Man I’ve got some killer mixes lined up. Broken beat is taking a little break for now, but if you want to hear some, next Friday 13/06 I’m playing some tunes at Cocomo, Old Street, E1 sometime like 9-10 then back 2 back till close which is 12. Come down if you fancy it.

Do you have any pets yourself?

It’s a damn shame too, as it would have been a great place to ‘stride’, and by the way do you have any pets yourself?

Any suggestion welcome, but first you should know, i've done Russell Brand and Adam & Joe both brass, so don't bother suggesting those.

It’s a damn shame too, as it would have been a great place to ‘stride’, and by the way do you have any pets yourself?

It’s entitled “In the beginning there was mixing” because in a lot of the mixes, the tunes are brought in from the very beginning with no beat (stormfields) or just the sparse high hat (hold on, default Last dance, sweet dreamz, modem, stonekiller and dusted << that one ain’t that good of a mix though)
And the image, well it reminds of the early days when I started mixing, renting off the romafia in château de eltham.

Some nice tunes in here
Goldie & Rob Playford - Jah (Dillinja The Seventh Seal Mix) [F.F.R.R]
Sounds of Life - Intallect [Certificate 18]
DJ Crystl - Sweet Dreamz [Dee Jay]
Axis - Dusted [Good Looking]
Aquarius - Drift to the centre [Looking Good]
Tight Control - Sax Lick 1 [Bare Necessities]
Invisible Man - Stormfields [Good Looking]
Rantoul - Default [Looking Good]
Oblivion - Last Dance [Streetbeats]
Source Direct - Modem [Source Direct]
Seba - Car Crash [Looking Good]
Lemon D – Manhattan Melody [Conqueror]
Source Direct - The Cult (Remix) [Razor’s Edge]
Bill Riley - The Chill (Millennium Mix) [Full Cycle]
Sci-Clone - Hold On [Metalheadz]
Wax Doctor - The Spectrum [Metalheadz]

Ez all
Every once in a while it’s nice to not have already read what’s coming up in a mix (Just like the radio) especially if you know the genre well. So for this mix the tracklisting is only going to have the track artists and even then they are only in alphabetical order.

For the catz that know their drum, should make the interesting

Boymerang
Calibre
Carlito & Addiction
Sci-Clone
Commix
Die
Fracture & Neptune
Influx UK
Klute
Krazy
Nu:tone
Nucleus
Paradox
Patife
Seba
Suv
Use of weapons
Vicious Circle
Zero Tolerance

Trust though, this mix is heavy, and great ambassador for the sound people should be associating with d’n’b. No nu-skool pendulum, no wobblefest Clipz and co. And no other noises that are detrimental to the ears. Full tracklist will be added in the comments section next week.

And yeah i know, my copy of "move on" is f**ked, i have a new one but didn't have the patience to re-record (plus was too busy playing with beats for the next episode)

Enjoy, and if you think you can post up a tracklist go ahead (It ain’t that hard)

Sorry for the delay, the next show is going to be dnb, and is already recorded, so should be bang on time at the end of the month. After that one? Who knows whats next? There’s some heavy beatwise dnb that I need to play for ya, so maybe more dnb, but then theres the downtempo mix, some new bruk business, another hip-hop mix and many more to come.

Till next time, enjoy
