It's not easy compiling a broken beat mix in today's musical climate. Few are making it like they used to and there's no dedicated regular nights to showcase any new music, which is fine I guess, Because people aren't producing it (well I definitely ain't hearing it. Though Kaidi & Mark Force say there are holding). So a musical aggregator like myself has to wade through the new releases digital cause they mostly are these days. with little in the way of mainstream playlists on DJ sets to give a heads on what's forthcoming. Morning/Afternoon/Evening (whatever day phase this transmission reaches you) Welcome, This time we have something a little different for you, not in musical tastes as such, more a differing in method of compilation. In a hybrid of the styles, one when 'a man named nayf from a forum few would have heard called dnba, who would compile a tracklist for a mix of another DJ's collections dug through on discogs mixed by a that DJ as they choose' style and the old back to back style (without the second DJ being present) My man Snakey, from the DNBA 'elite' provided the skeleton of a tracklisting within the den rule that a tune can't have used before, (which somehow still produced at least 5 ineligible tunes, lol. Which where replaced by my own selection/weapons I have been storing. I would give a breakdown of where this events occur and whos selection is whos but they're all my tunes anyway, so I would have got round to them eventally and it don't really add to the experience so it not worth the words really. I suppose now that I (believe I) know the number of regular listeners you guess you would say I should look to expand on those numbers, and I yes you could say the previous show was an attempt to do so, with some lovely dnb rollers that should appeal to the mainstream dnb market (if back in 2004), this podcast takes in it an sharp twist, starting up sythy and autonomic before hitting euphoric amens then drifting into a dark choppy jungle of amens before finishing in the interstellar darkness all without a drop of liquid in slight. (Again yes the picture has water, so again a slight contradiction but once you're 10 minutes in I think you'll find the image fitting) Something that may not suit the casual dnb listener but goes deep in terms of bass and selection I suppose this is half a step away from pots and pans, but believe me, that's coming soon too. And I return, Things in the den are going amazingly well, But the summer in London is finally here (so they say), and a icy field is your visual simulation, you would think I wasn't happy about the weather. Maybe it's just my imagination being on the haunting wintery setting, that makes this image seem relatable to this mix as it reaches 'Ancestral'. Apart from that little section the mix has real summer feel to it, rollers from start to finish. You cannot not enjoy it. (Yes that was intentional) Rave Save? I 'little' deplorable I hear you say? Well I suppose in sum respect you're right, it's very barley-esque, but f@*% it, It's a quote from Human Traffic which I thought was a great film and this is a great party mix without a 'tough' tune in sight. so the mix does what is says on the ti(n/tile) regardless of the image used. BACK, that's right! Handing out the goodies once again, this time of the broken variety, slim pickings as that is this days. When combined with some classics, digging and breaks create a lovely summery mix for you folks. It's times like these that I remember why I started mixing tunes over seven summers and (it's actually eight, but hey I had some alliteration going there!) and why I still love doing this today.(Though none of these artist today actually got me mixing) I shouldn't really be giving away my musical past so candidly. This one's a bass heavy workout which I meant to post up this time last month, but couldn't get the artwork started. Anyway it's here now, and points out the key facts learnt in the last few months of wilderness. That DEDICATED AUDIO EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED both on my part and you guys the listeners, I think earphones really sell this mix short as the EQ work really requires the full spectrum down to the sub bass for fully enjoyment. Well we're back, it's been a good two weeks(+), the den is a thriving state of operation. plan sand tracklistings are quickly building up, as the releases keep rolling out. September 18 could be said to mark the point in the calendar where the new den achieved optimum operating condition. It could easily be said that the new den has some basic design flaws. But it's so persuasive in it's coolness. I think this one of the best mixes I've ever recorded, and to be honest heard ever!. So no bigging myself up there. Anyway moving on, it's good, I enjoyed making it, and it's epic, So I think the point is clear. Some of the mixes we're talking about just roll out effortlessly, I mean the 'vocal tune'>'blue sky' mix, lush. The 'Dark Angel'>'So Long' overlapping bassline, prefect! Not to mention all the rest!! The Cave MK3

The Cave MK3, The point where I acknowledge that indeed I and the cave itself have relocated south again, and try and get moving on publishing the 5+ finished or WIP mixes that I have lying around on my hard drive taking up valuable real estate (the WAVs are at least).

I guess it could be called it regime change!!!

As you can see from the picture the latest cave is “cosy”. It actually doesn’t look as sinister as the picture may have you believe, but I’m all for mood and atmosphere.

Well since I last posted I’ve piggy backed on to what you could call the corporate circuit. Lol. I would like to thank Christian (Wes) and the guys in Hatfield for that party and the hospitality. If that’s what life is like on the road, I could dig it (well at least for a while,) Serato not working was a pain, but (luckily) always prepared, I brought the necessary 5 hours worth of vinyl with me so that was, fine but the red wine hangovers!)

So yeah I’m officially putting out there the whole “for bookings and info email man@blahblahagency.com” << [please don’t email that I ain’t with them (yet, lol)] and welcoming all gigs (as if I’ll get any, broken beat is dead isn’t it? I suppose I could try to tie in with “UK Fun-Ke” audience, Don’t know if I could draw for any of those tunes those)

This one was recorded way back in October or something like that, and was the first one recorded in the new cave (which is sometimes known as “the den”). Thanks to Thoughts Cosmic who gave me a couple of tunes months ago and I been toying with where to put them in mixes, finally knocked one in, and it’s the rolling one. And Bopstar who a couple of months ago finally yet out a tune i had buged him to have. One tune can’t be listed as the label has been known for going militant regarding copyright infringement the title is pretty oblivious though.

The Comoco session should be next Friday but will I’ll confirm on that as I “plan” to publish another podcast before that (that right this thing was always meant to be twice monthly, I just got lazy).

Red tape breaker

Well well well, it would seem that with all of the bureaucracy in getting the podcasts ready huge delays have appeared in the schedule (there is actually one, as loose as it may be). The delay was generally down to me either, trying to stick to a certain order whlie haveing to think of little the titles, coming up with the little artwork and completely having to re record mixes due to fluffy needles and Serato messing up (yes it can happen, but it was probably down to the fluffy needles or the battered control vinyl)

Anyway this little mix is at least 3 months old and was meant to appear after a little tech-step rinse out, but it’s cut through the red tape and posted ahead of it’s planned place, and as you can see this means its missing elements, but then again I hardly think you’re checking this for the pictures as much I enjoy producing them.

That right I told you the next one would be on time, featuring some tunes I’ve had for a while and been playing at the Cocomo thing. But hadn’t made it into a podcast. Starting with a killer Souled edit of a funk tune, proper banging tune there (cheers boys), something from the 4Hero album because I realized I hadn’t played much of that, a couple of digital only tunes, the mega smash that is the Rass Out, some twisted funk, a shoody sounding (but funky) Karizma Bootleg the Whinehouse Bugz remix (I know I’ve already played that, but the mix has had to be archived off the site due to needing the space, plus the double drop is sweet!!!) And a real roller from the Jazztronauts, finishing with some ‘restless soul’ style house. The can really hear the dust on some of the records (even the ‘new’ ones), that’s the month and a half break showing it's signs, need to perform some deep cleaning. Over a month late, but still breathing. The music continues, with a selection that in terms of depth is really saying something about my musical tastes. One of those ‘varied’ sets again, this ones’ got some long mixes in it but I’d like to think I’ve added a new dimension to some of the tunes and still given the tracks that need it enough time to breathe, dnb on this one, with the broken stuff coming soon (don’t worry its been recorded already, just need to leave a few days in between to let the itunes catch them all automatically) Highlight for me are the bassline rolling in, on ‘B’s Theme’, ‘Tight Fit’ and ‘Defunct Drum’s Depression Decade’ and the final tune, (Cookie check it I think you’ll like!) Actually the whole thing is pretty good!! Levels clip a bit on the drop of ‘Tradition’, sorry about that but I was in the bass switch mode, and got a little excited.
